While many attended the St. Patrick’s Day Parade,
members of Heights 225 opted to help with cemetery maintenance at
Olivewood Cemetery. Olivewood is an African American cemetery close
to Glenwood
cemetery and is nearly as old, but unlike Glenwood, has not been
properly maintained. After four hours of aggressive yard work, the
overgrowth
yielded a number of impressive grave sites including that of a grand
secretary of Grand United Order of Odd Fellows, the Black
organization that paralleled the I.O.O.F. For all the efforts of
the lodge members, a good six acres remains untouched. Olivewood is
an ongoing
project of Heights 225.
